Safeguarding
At St Simon's Catholic Primary School, our aim is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils, staff and visitors, and to follow statutory guidance and national legislation relating to the protection of children and vulnerable adults. We value all members of our community and strive to treat everyone with dignity, respect and care.
We have created this policy in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, relevant safeguarding legislation, and current safeguarding guidance, including the Human Rights Act 1998, Data Protection Act 2018, Children Act 1989 and 2004, and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
Safeguarding outcomes for children are:
- Children and young people are safe.
- Effective procedures are in place to ensure children are protected from harm.
- Children are supported to achieve the best possible outcomes and thrive within a safe environment.
Safeguarding is not just about protecting children from deliberate harm. It includes:
- Health and safety
- Bullying, including cyberbullying
- Racist, homophobic and discriminatory incidents
- Harassment and discrimination
- Prevention of radicalisation and extremism
- Use of reasonable force and physical intervention
- Supporting pupils with medical conditions
- First aid provision
- Drug, alcohol and substance misuse awareness
- Educational visits and residential trips
- Intimate care
- Online and internet safety
- Site security
- Attendance and punctuality
